What is a bridge?

If you have missing teeth then a dental bridge can be used to replace them and can give a completely natural appearance. A bridge consists of a link of porcelain teeth joined together and is bonded to the teeth on either side of the gap. As the bridge is bonded in the mouth it cannot be removed.

Conventional bridge

The teeth on either side of the gap are trimmed to make space the same way as they would be for crowns. A link of porcelain teeth is then bonded in place covering the trimmed teeth and replacing the missing teeth.

Maryland Bridge

The bridge is bonded in place by attaching to a neighbouring tooth with a metal wing. This type of bridge is very good because it involves little to no preparation of the neighbouring teeth but it is not strong enough to withstand high biting forces and so is not suitable for all situations.
