At Complete Dental Care we try and prevent your children from developing decay from an early age. If your child does unforunately develop dental decay in one of their teeth we can usually fix this with a small white filling if it is spoted early on. Baby teeth are smaller and weaker than adult teeth and so if the decay is allowed to grow then sometimes parts of the baby tooth can fracture leaving a hole in the tooth called a cavity. Normally we can still clean these and place white fillings but as the size of cavity gets larger then the white fillings do not work as well.
When a baby tooth has a crack or considerable amount of dental decay then we may consider placing a stainless steel crown on the tooth. This is a small, silver coloured cover for the tooth. They are easy and painless to place and usually we can just pop them directly over the tooth without doing anything to the tooth before hand. Stainless steel crowns work very well and will usually come out along with the tooth when the adult tooth is starting to come through. As they are such a good option you will find more and more children in the playground will have these in their mouths and so children will not feel self conscious at all.
At Complete Dental Care we strongly believe in looking after your children’s teeth from an early age so that they do not have problems with their teeth in later life. For very young children we have the childsmile programme which is designed to help prevent decay from starting so that we do not have to place any fillings later.
