We are often asked at what age someone should come for their first visit to the dentist. At Complete Dental Care we are part of the Scottish Childsmile programme and so we encourage parents to bring their children in to visit us when they are a couple of months old. We strongly believe in trying to prevent dental problems and so we aim to equip new parents with the tools and knowledge to ensure their child’s mouth stays as healthy as possible. The first visit with a dentist is normally when the first tooth comes through at around 6 months old. After this we advise six monthly visits to make sure that all of the teeth are growing normally and so that we can continue to give preventive advice.
Our friendly dentists and dental nurses have lots of experience treating children and always look forward to meeting our younger patients. We are happy to chat with parents and children about the best ways to maintain a healthy mouth and we try to make visits for children as fun as possible. As part of the Childsmile scheme we will give your children free toothpaste and toothbrushes and we will apply a fluoride varnish to their teeth when they come in for their six monthly check ups. This is all aimed at trying to prevent dental decay from starting and to build good oral hygiene habits from a young age.
