Today our sedation clinic was running again and it was busy as usual. Wednesday tends to be the main day that we carry out sedation at the dental practice but we can of course provide dental sedation at any day during the week to suit your needs. We provide iv sedation on the NHS for everyone aged 16 and over. We can also provide sedation on a private basis if you are receiving private treatment such as cosmetic crowns or dental implants.
Dental Sedation monitoring
During treatment we connect a small electronic monitor to one of your fingers (called a pulse oximeter) which measures your oxygen saturation and also your heart rate. Your oxygen saturation tells us how much oxygen is in your blood and allows us to check that you are breathing well and your heart rate tells us how fast your heart is beating. When sedated you become very relaxed and so sometimes you will breath slower so it is vital that we monitor your breathing throughout treatment and also after until you are discharged.
Dental sedation is very effective and is an excellent option if you are feeling anxious or aprehensive regarding treatment. It is very safe and all of our dentists and dental nurses that carry out sedation are experience and fully trained.
