We have recently introduced a dental hygienist to the Complete Dental Care team; however we have found that a number of patients are unsure what she can actually do. Dental hygienists play an important role within the dental team and help us to provide preventative dental health as well as looking after your gums. Their main work is to prevent and treat gum disease. In the UK gum disease is the main reason that people will lose their teeth, so you can understand why we want to focus our efforts in this area.
Our dental hygienist is specially trained to be able to thoroughly clean your teeth and gums. Perhaps more importantly she will be able to discuss ways that you can keep your teeth clean and free of plaque at home and so help to prevent gum problems. Most people will be fine to have a clean twice per year but some people that are more prone to gum problems will require to visit the hygienist every 3 months for a cleaning. This is particularly important if you have had and cosmetic work carried out, such as crown or veneers or dental implants.
If you would like any further information regarding our hygienist services then please contact us at the practice.
