What are veneers?
Dental veneers are coverings for the front of your teeth. They are normally made from porcelain but they are sometimes made from other materials also. We use them when we want to change the appearance of your teeth for various reasons. Patients will often tell us that they want veneers in their full mouth to improve their smile and it may be because there are gaps in their teeth, their teeth may be slightly crooked, the shape of their teeth may be uneven or have cracks or their teeth may simply be a dark colour. Whilst veneers can tranform a smile it is not always the best option and we will always carry out a thorough examination to advise you on the best option for you.
How do veneers work?
Normally we need to polish the front surface of your teeth a remove around 1mm from the surface so that we have space to make the thin porcelain veneers and when these are bonded on to the front of your teeth they will not look bulky. Each veneer is custom made by a skilled technician so that it is a perfect fit for your teeth. We will normally decide on the final shade and shape for the veneers well before this so that we can predict what the final result should be.
Veneers are only one of a many options that can be used to improve your smile. The pictures below show an example of a patient that was treated by us and he received a comination of emax porcelain veneers and cosmetic crowns.
