On 8th September our implant dentist, Omar Iqbal, took part in the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland event. This event is Scotland’s largest cycling event and is a challenging bike ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh. The total distance for the normal event is 48 miles but some very brave folk can also take part in the challenge event which goes via Kilmarnock and is a distance of 110 miles. The Pedal for Scotland cycling event has been running for 15 years; when it first started there were around four hundred riders but in recent years there have been over 10 000 people taking part.
Omar started the bike ride at Glasgow Green at precisely 8am. Luckily it was a beautiful and sunny day which made the cycle a lot of fun. In total Omar completed the event in 4 hours with an average speed of around 13mph and a top speed of 32mph (downhill of course).
Omar said, ‘ It was a long and gruelling bike ride but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I am sure my legs will be hurting for days but don’t worry I am not planning on taking any days off work.’
